Die Stadtanlage von Volubilis macht nördlcih der Basilika einen merklichen Knick. An dieser Stelle steht monumental der Triumphbogen oder Ehrenbogen des römischen Kaisers Caracalla, errichtet 216/217 n.Chr. In den Provinzen war man diesem Kaiser für die Verleihung voller römischer Bürgerrechte dankbar und bekam wohl von den Grausamkeiten in Rom nichts mit. Ein kleiner Hügel in der Nähe lädt zum Rundblick ein. Von hier aus stechen die fruchtbare Ebene und das ausgedehnte Nordviertel ins Auge. Tatsächlich fand man in allen Herrenhäusern auch Ölmühlen, so daß die Quelle des Wohlstands nachvollziehbar ist.

The city layout of Volubilis makes a noticeable bend to the north of the basilica. At this point stands the monumental triumphal arch or arch of honour of the Roman emperor Caracalla, erected in 216/217 A.D. In the provinces, people were grateful to this emperor for granting them full Roman civil rights and were probably unaware of the atrocities in Rome. A small hill nearby offers a panoramic view. From here, the fertile plain and the extensive northern quarter catch the eye. In fact, oil mills were found in all the stately homes, so that the source of the wealth can be understood.
