Sangama is an inland island about 3 km away from Srirangapatna and confluence point of 3 holy rivers - Kaveri (engl. Cauvery) River, Loakpavani and Hemavati River. The actual confluence is formed by two arms of the Kaveri river.
It is not far away from where Tipu Sultan had his summer residence. -> Gumbaz, the Mausoleum.
A dip in the Sangam is considered to be holy. A common belief among people says that their sins can be washed away by this holy dip.
It is also a popular picnic spot and picturesque place. From here the river Cauvery flows southwest into the Mettur Dam in Tamil Nadu.

Gruss Walter

Die Papierchen meinte ich natürlich ironisch!
Danke für die freundliche Reaktion. Und Grüsse von

Quite often you will find burning ghats (places where dead bodies are burnt) in the vicinity of a prayag, as it helps the deceased to achieve a higher incarnation in the next life, if one is burnt at a holy spot. Usually the eldest son throws the ashes of a parent into the nearby river after the cremation, another reason, why the steps are important.
All rivers are holy in India, because naturally water is the existential lifeline in a hot country.
Unfortunately environmental consciousness is only slowly growing in India, so ghats are usually covered with litter like here.
The Kaveri belongs to the seven superholy rivers, which are specially worshipped by Hindus, the Ganges (or Ganga as the Hindus say) being No 1.
