The nature reserve Malscheid was once a basalt quarry used until the early 20th century. A beautiful lake called Silbersee (silver lake) contributes the top of the mountain to be a scenic place. It is located exactly on the border between the two German states North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. The nearest city is Siegen.
