I am somewhat suprised how wide open the landscape looks at the North End of Lago di Como. I must confess the followig: When I was planning my visit last year I knew I wanted to go from Moltrasio to Avers Valley in Grigioni (pano 25939). On the map, the shortest route would have been to drive north along Lago di Como, then take Montespluga. But 'fresh of the plane' and jet lagged, and after driving only in flat, wide, straight Canadian roads for the previous two years, I choose the highway via San Bernardino...

If you are used to driving in flat, wide and straight Canadian roads you have done well. The roads to Montespluga are exactly the opposite: uphill, narrow and curved ;-)

A new location - and an excellent one!!!

Normally very rainy weather in october. This year rainy in Germany, but not at Lago di Como. But anyway difficult to get there in these times ... :-/

Hi Oliver. The weather in October this year on Lake Como was not great, but for me it is easy to reach the lake and choose the best weather.
Unfortunately, times are difficult for everyone. We hope well.

@Augustin- when we drove from Lake Louise to Moraine Lake in 2013 there was a warning sign about the "steep and curvy mountain road" - for a road that was always wideenough to accommodate 3 or 4 campervans next to each other. If this is the reference, then Montespluga / Splügenpass is definitvely a diffferent story and a much more enjoyable (i.e less boring) drive. Cheers, Martin
