Herfte, outside area of Zwolle (1982)

Herfte is a hamlet in the municipality of Zwolle. Together with Wijthmen and Business Park Marslanden-Zuid, it forms the district Marsweteringlanden. Excavations have uncovered objects at this site that indicate contact between the early inhabitants of the site and the Roman Empire. Between 1903 and 1941 there was a stop here on the Zwolle - Stadskanaal railway line.

Herfte is best known for the presence of De Ambelt, a school for special education. In 1928 a primary school was opened here for children infected with tuberculosis from socially weak backgrounds. This was done by the Zwolsche Vereeniging to fight Tuberculosis. This open-air school made use of the country house of country estate De Ambelt (white building background?). A day sanatorium had been located on an adjacent piece of land since 1922.

Camera:? 3 photos, AGFA slide film, portraid format, PanoramaStudio montage.
