Perhaps the most particular aspect of the pano is to see palms and the Alps at the same time.
I think Herwig's was just a joke, but I would also like to point out that the border is not twenty miles away, but only 6 kilometers, that is just over three miles.
Ventimiglia means literally twenty miles, but has a different etymology.

This pano has wonderful light & colours, especially in the left half!
I was wondering if it would benefit from shortening it by cropping on the right end - which to me seems less interesting (apart from the photographer's shadow).
(For me it looks like the pano falls to the right at the end?)

But, historically, the area of Nice (Nizza) was of Italian language and culture and the border reached the Var river. For example, if I'm not wrong, in German, is still used today the Italian name of the city, Nizza.
For the right of the pano, you are probably right.
