Comments

The theatre is really impressive and beautiful, but this version of the panorama lacks a bit of sharpness on the sides. The other version is very distorted - what a dilemma;-)

Ciao Robert
You're completely right. This version is quite realistic, but on both sides is obviously distorted - it's not possible to make a perfectly rectilinear perspective in a small place like this. The other picture is less distorted, but it seems to me to be into a fish bowl! By these two "divertissements" my only intention was to show an absolute masterpiece of neoclassical art and architecture (in Italy, and all over the world too), beginned by Andrea Palladio in 1580 before he died and crowned by Scamozzi in 1584. If you come to Vicenza, YOU MUST SEE IT!!!

Ciao, Alvise

Equirectangular projection - rectilinear view,
there is a third way, Alvise. A viewer (Apple QuickTime, PTviewer, etc) is used, so that the equirectangular image is viewed as a rectilinear panorama. While image is moved in the window the clipped part is changed in real time: what you see in the viewer window is a rectilinear image. This way, every part in a 360° x 180° panorama can be displayed using classical perspective (these explanation is from http://slash72.club.fr/gurl/MODES-PROJECTION/en_prefecture_rectiligne.htm, which I quoted with my panorama #2894 "Gerade - das Neue Palais in Potsdam-Sanssouci"). - Can you indicate some details to your panorama "Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza"?
