Jan pushed me to check UDeuschle to discover new and indeed farther away heights visible on my 55 % crop of "Flemish hills seen from Waterfront". So I decided to present this after the study is completed. Yesterday however there was a nice sunset over the Scheldt estuary, just after heavy thunderstorms. Amazingly nearly the whole day, it was windless so the thunderstorms remained here for hours and just at the right time, the setting sun appeared for a while to deliver this splendid show.

VG, Danko.
I saw the air and the river suddenly colouring bright orange and knowing I had not much time before sunset, I ran like a fool to the place, immediately shot the pics, processed them and thanks to the RAW's could correct the darker side;-)
I read an earlier comment of yours saying this one was very quick and easy to complete - very happy for you. Does the fact that you didn't have to work very hard for this pano make it 'inferior'? Of course not! Was it chance or luck? Maybe - but we all know it takes skill and practice to exploit a chance when it comes along. And yet chances remain fairly unpredictable.
When it comes to 4-star ratings and comments, luck plays a bigger role than what you might expect. And it is so for perfectly rational and logical reasons: Most participants on this site post 'good panoramas' with no major or obvious flaws or mistakes.
As a result it seems to make perfect sense then that our colleagues would refer to more 'subjective' and perhaps emotional criteria when choosing favourites or which ones to comment on or give a star rating.
What might seem like random or arbitrary is indeed the result of an overall high level of competence among contributors to this site.
Keep posting great panos and enjoy the support and feedback from fellow panorama fans!
