Traveling through Italy brings one on many beautiful places.
Most of them already covered by Giuseppe ;-)

However, whilst strolling from one place to the other I lost my track again - just today! But ... I am sure help is near, it should not be that complicated this time ;-)

AFTER SOLVING ... Fortunately, Werner did help me out and I am back on my track knowing again that I have been at Matera. A very, very special place. When I approach such a settlement I am often overwhelmed by the written history, by all the guiding literature, all the pre-fabricated thoughts and so on. So on this beautiful spring day with the whole landscape in lush green I just turned away from the city and looked into the gorge with the little stream. By analogy it was immediately possible for me why man always wanted to settle here in the cliff dwellings - water was abundant, shelter and atop of the cliffs land to hunt, to gather or to raise crops. As I learned during my stays in the South-West of the US. Only later I learned (from the books ...) that indeed, the Matera area was settled since neolithic ages. We must not forget, that at that times vegetation was completely different, e.g. more differentiated - an optimal habitats for our ancestors! How interesting that their way of living survived deep into the 20th century BC.

Maybe I've been here, but I have to think about it. South Italy anyway.

Dear Giuseppe
This is very kind of you. Most you know. For example - now I know what astonishing accomplishment your Trani panorama is. Or I do know that it is hardly possible to get a decent pano shot in Bitonto. But there - the church is so marvelous - I almost forgot taking pictures ...
Herzlichst Christoph
