Catania is (after Palermo) Sicily's second largest city.
The city was almost completely destroyed in the seventeenth century by an eruption of Mount Etna and later by the 1693 earthquake.
Therefore, as like other cities of southwestern Sicily, historical center it was rebuilt in Baroque style.
This pano was taken from the dome of the Abbey of St. Agatha, only recently opened to the public.
Unfortunately Etna was covered by clouds, you see just only the top.
