For unknown reasons the gas-station was closed and we had to turn around. The bus driver had a lot of fun in this storm - me too.

I am standing in the middle of Möðrudalur - a small village which is now in the middle of nowhere but was once located at the ring-road. If I remember correctly I did camp here when I was visiting Iceland by bike some decades ago - in a very dry (only two storms and dry highland crossing !!) and well temperated summer.

Thank you dear Iceland aficionados. Yes, it is Möðrudalur - one of this enchanting outposts of civilization. The complete road was covered with black ice, since the snowstorm did set in after a thawing period. It was the idea of our Austrian guide - a well known Geologist - to see if we can get some good cake here on our way from Myvatn (same weather) to Egilstadir (worse weather).

VG Martin
