A very impressive Landmark - and for some a bawdy symbol or demonstration of an architectural show of force whose exposed concrete was calculated primarily for West-Berlin (Friedrich Dieckmann).
The tower basket was supposed to be inspired by Sputnik Satellite I read. Interesting in general also the urbanistic architectural school of the GDR in the 60's, which got encouraged by this building.
I like it ... and your pano. You are showing the tower leaning to the right .. I once was showing the Munich tower leaning to the left :-)

Hallo HJB. I like much Berlin because I am a history buff and in Berlin, although the city is almost entirely rebuilt, the weight of history feels very heavy everywhere. An example is given its own from the Fernsehturm. It was built by the communist regime in open defiance in West Berlin. It had to demonstrate the strenght and efficiency of the socialist system. As we all know , the socialist system collapsed and in Berlin many symbolic buildings of the GDR were slaughtered. But Fernsehturm remained and I think it was the right thing.

Giuseppe: I think that with "leaning" HJBay simply means that to look at your tower the Betrachter needs to rotate his neck by 90° CW, while to look at his Olympiaturm 90° CCW are needed.
Seems that in this site a rotation by 00°00'01" is seen with suspicion but multiples of 90° are welcome. The spirit is: If a rotation exists, let its existence be clear! Or, maybe, it is agreed that 00°00'01" are not effective enough as a physiotherapy for the neck, even with continued Betrachtungen.

Alberto, you are right and indeed I remember well the very beautiful horizontal pano of HJB (9223).
The pano of which you speak will see it again soon.

HJB #9223 is also wonderful, but I think he means #13904.

This tower has not such a "rough" quality. Given its story I wonder if it from the beginning was meant to look a little nicer than other concrete-towers, or was it later it was plastered? Kind regards, Jan.

Yes Jan, I meant the Munich Olympic Tower built in the mid 60's.
"Leaning" to the right... Hope no one did take it the wrong way. It was like Alberto mentioned, that you put the tower clockwise. All lines are upright not deviated !
Tablet users (with a nice big screen) can easily take advantage of their device and watch it upright.
Actually I never thought to put a tower or vertical building CW ... this now becomes an attitude survey :-)
I only posted two of those kind on p-p but if I look at my archive, all are laid CCW.

Jan: this is crazy, I looked at the tower, and then somewhere on some page I clicked on the Rathaus, which otherwise I open tonight for the first time!
Maybe after hard exercises at odd multiples of 90° one temporarily looses the control of the mouse...

Arno: I don't rattle, *you* have (or had? I not much up to date) Simon Rattle in Berlin...
Hope for the Berliner (and for the stability of the tower) that he acts as a rattle, but that he does not rattle to much!

Dear Arno, we partecipate in this site because it is a nice website, because there's friendly people and because we like to make panoramas. We do not share, however, a few things. We think, for example, that is given too much importance to not significant technical details and is given too little emphasis to other factors.
We think that there is a tendency to reward panos perhaps technically perfect, but banal and repetitive. It is undisputed that the pano should not present obvious defects, but is given too little importance to factors such as, for example, originality, search of new views, lighting conditions, intrinsic beauty of the landscape.
But of course this is just an opinion.

Interesting arguments are exchanged!

I want to tell you a funny story about Fernsehturm. When the sun shines on the dome of the tower in stainless steel, the reflection usually appears in the form of a cross. You see, only very slightly, even in the pano.

Berliners nicknamed the luminous cross Rache des Papstes, or the "Pope's Revenge". For the same reasons, the structure was also called (ironically)"St. Walter" (from Walter Ulbricht).
