Castel Sant'Angelo is one of the most famous places in Rome. As many historical buildings in Rome, Castel Sant 'Angelo has been repeatedly re-used for different purposes.
In his long life it was a little bit of everything.
Its construction began in 125 AD and was initially the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian.
It was then used as: tomb of many Roman emperors, defensive rampart of Rome, state prison, invincible castle, place of refuge of the Popes during sieges of Rome, luxurious Renaissance residence, prison for political prisoners, museum.
And probably I forget something ;) .

Yes, I forgot that there is a famous opera "La Tosca," which is set in Castel Sant 'Angelo.
But I've probably forgotten more ;).
Alberto, between ourselves, Pierre Bideau willingly we leave him in Paris.
