Location: San Gimignano / Torre Grossa (324 m)      by: Christoph Seger
Area: Italy      Date: 2013-09-11
Since C.H. did show the two beautiful views from the fortress of San Gimignano I decided - for the sake of completeness to show one of my "tower series" now. I stand on Torre Grossa, with 54 m the highest of the remaining approx. dozen tower houses from the 14th century. Medivial Manhattan it is called and indeed it is usually as crowded as downtown NY.

Torre Grossa next to the duomo can be accessed through the beautiful Museo Civico in the Municipio. A steel stairway replaced the frightening wooden staircases in the hollow tower, climbing onto the huge plattform (without the possibility to do a 360) is however still special ...

I appologize for the bad sky on the righthand side and that I missed Torre dei Cugnanesi (to the right).
